Step Away for a Day

Sometimes all we need is a day to find some perspective and restore ourselves. There are numerous ways to step away for a day long retreat, but it does take a little planning on your part. You cannot retreat with a toddler in tow or a houseful of kids. You certainly cannot find your bliss if your phone is blowing up with email and text notifications from your boss or co-workers.

Plan a day where you can hire a babysitter or ensure the kids can spend a day with friends or family. If you are a caregiver yourself, you will need to make arrangements for someone to fill in for you. Your main goal is to clear your schedule of all obligations for a specific period of time so that you can give yourself a reprieve.

Once you get the logistics worked out, you can create a practice of compassionate care around yourself whether it be a home retreat or one day getaway. Schedule your retreat for a full or half day to include some elements of mindfulness, silence, spa treatments, healthy eating, reflection, flow and rest.

During your retreat refrain from answering your phone unless it is a critical communication.Consider some contemplative time in nature and cultivate some awareness as to how your are feeling during the time you devote to yourself. Set some intentions as to what you wish to manifest from this day. Often times this type of getaway is all that’s needed to feel whole again and experience a break from our daily activities.
